A homemade dog food recipe your pup will love

I’m sure you’ve all heard, read and seen – homemade dog food is the best option you can give your pet to make sure they get all the essential nutrients they need. But do you really have the time to spare? Good news is that with a couple easy and amazingly quick recipes you will. Let us sho you this great, quick homemade dog food recipe your pup will love.

Nutritional requirements

First it’s important to note that dogs have different nutrient requirements than humans for their proportional body size, such as:

  1. High-quality protein (meat, seafood, dairy or eggs)
  2. Fat or fatty acids (meat, oil, egg yolks)
  3. Carbohydrates (grains or vegetables)
  4. Calcium (dairy)
  5. Fibers (vegetables, oatmeal, grains)

I tend to make sure that the food I prepare for my dogs goes in a proportion of 50% meat, 30% veggies and 20% oatmeal or rice which I blend in really well as it doesn’t go down as well with my girls as juicy, saucy meat. Also, make sure that the vegetables you use are safe for your pup. There are a couple of go to ideas below. If you would like to find out which ‘super food’ is safe for them check our recent article!

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of meat of your choice
  • 1,5 cups of grated vegetables, I usually use carrots and courgettes
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1 tbl spoon of oil or lard
  • salt for seasoning

Fry 2 cups of minced meat on a little bit of oil for about 20 min, then add your grained vegetables and keep frying until they are softened. In the meantime put to boil a cup of rice. When both ready mix well, cool and it is ready to serve. Handy tip: multiple the portions and you can keep them in the fridge and use them for up to 5 days.

If your dog needs extra vitamins or supplements you can mix it with each daily portion, I will cover a few really good ones in my next post.

I hope your dog will enjoy this recipe and please, make sure to leave your comments or questions below. Happy cooking!
